Dear Ones,
This August we will be featuring the music of the Beatles. Doing research, I noted that in the early albums the Beatles recorded other songwriters' songs including several R&B numbers. The Beatles brought a new sound, new harmonies, and new ideas into the pop music culture. Many people, myself included, have long yearned to have the creativity of those four lads from Liverpool.
When we examine that idea, in light of our philosophy, we come to realize that all of us have an equal share of creativity. We study the creative process and understand that everything we see, whether it is a song or an ashtray, a painting or a rowboat has come about through exactly the same process. The process goes something like this: I have a feeling, the feeling leads me to a desire for a different experience, the desire then is acted upon by our judgment and judged as a fitting idea to entertain, we entertain the idea and it grows in our imagination. Let's say the idea fascinates us so we hold it steadfastly in our imagination. If we realize we are creative beings and simply plant that vitalized idea in our subconscious mind, letting it be acted upon by the Law of Mind, it will lead us to the exact right next steps to bring that fascinating idea into the world of form.
Please note, I am not saying that we should "try" to hold an idea in mind. In fact, the more effort and struggle, grunting and groaning, that goes on for us, the less likely we will be in being successful in our creative endeavor. Thomas Troward wrote: "The truth is that man never creates anything. His function is, not to create, but to combine and distribute that which is already in being, and what we call our creations are new combinations of already existing material."
The best part about understanding the creative process is that we do not need to know HOW to bring any of those new combinations together. Our job is to listen to our dreams and steadfastly maintain the vision. God does the work. God brings it into being. God guides and directs us to take the next steps.
One of my students quipped that this should not be called the creative process at all. He is quite accurate. It should really be called the revelatory process, for we are simply revealing our hearts' desires by cooperating with the nature of Life.
What does it mean for you? Maybe you are a song-writer, a painter, or even someone who is dissatisfied with your current work situation. Pay attention to your most passionate ideas, your feelings, your dreams, your joys and sorrows. This is the raw material of your creativity. Remember there is no great or small in the eyes of God. The same mind that wrote the world's best music resides in you. The same mind that created the Masterpieces resides in you. The same mind that raised the dead lives in you. Be fascinated by the good stuff.
Love and blessings,
Heather
