Dear Ones,
Our theme for the month of September is Service. In the East this is referred to as Seva, an ancient Sanskrit word meaning "selfless loving service to God." It is work performed without the intention of personal reward or gain; it is work performed for good of the whole of humankind.
Can you imagine a world without people who are willing to serve humankind? Being in service is a lifetime commitment. It isn't temporary or part time. It is a powerful tool you can use to experience a deep transformation in your life. Swami Chidvilasananda said: "Until you apply yourself to something very meaningful it is difficult to experience your own inner goodness."
We are always grateful for those people who volunteer at our Center. They understand the concept of giving and receiving being the same. We honor them.
What are you longing for? What is your soul's desire? I think most of us have a longing for connection to the Absolute Power that resides within. I believe that we are spiritual beings having a human experience right here and right now and we are a work in process.
If you are not already in service here at the Center for Spiritual Living Capistrano Valley or somewhere else, ask yourself why. Ask yourself what it is that may be stopping you? What is your greatest fear? Are you willing to explore the journey of spiritual deepening? Getting to know yourself and allowing others to know you on another level?
John Astin, singer, songwriter, poet, and much, much more, has written a song that is very special to me. It's on his CD, Rememberance, and will be our chant for September: Love, Serve and Remember.
"Why have you come to serve, do you remember? Why have you taken birth? Why have you come? To love, serve and remember.to love serve and remember.to love serve and remember to love."
Dennis Merritt Jones in his book The Art of Being says:
"Why have you come to earth and why have you taken birth at this particular time? The answer lies within. As you awaken to the presence of God within you, you will remember, and the answers will be revealed. That's why you're here.
The world is a better place because you're in it. Honor yourself by being the magnificence you are. Become a part of the collective consciousness and let your light shine!"
Love,
Rev. Alene
