I carry your heart in my heart

Dear Ones,

This will be the first time since coming to America in 1993 that I will be out of the country for my favorite holiday - Thanksgiving. There are so many feelings that are churning within me. I am very grateful to be traveling with my many of my spiritual family to New Zealand and Australia to the Parliament of the World's Religions; at the same time I am feeling sad that I will not be here celebrating this holy day with you.

I love Thanksgiving because it is an opportunity to appreciate all the good that has been part of the previous year. I love Thanksgiving because we really do dwell on the spiritual aspects of the holiday rather than the commercial ones. I love Thanksgiving because it calls me to live in the attitude of gratitude which is a multiplier of good.

While we are away, we will be celebrating as best we can, in a different way than usual. For me, it will be an opportunity to remind myself that the occasion is not really about tradition including turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole and Aunt Gerry's fantastic raisin pie, but rather is about appreciating the many gifts of our life, spiritual, financial, physical as well as culinary, that we have received and enjoyed.

Being in a new place is also an opportunity to practice being in the moment and affirming whatever is in front of us (even if the water circles the drain in a different way.) It is being called to remember that God is present with us and as us all the time, whether we are aware of it or not. We travelers will have an opportunity to create and experience connection and appreciation in a new way. No matter where we are or with whom, we all have an opportunity to bring even more awareness to this special day.

My intention is to keep in touch as best I can. I have purchased a mini camcorder to keep you posted on our adventures. Since I have not yet mastered the software, you may have some hilarious viewing (or none at all) in store. We have a terrific line up of speakers for you while I am away - Edwene Gaines, Robert McDowell and Aman Motwane; all of them are published authors and experienced speakers. Many of you have heard Edwene before and she is just as funny, fun and outrageous as ever. Robert McDowell is a poet who challenges his audience to use their innate creativity. Aman Motwane is the author of Yes, You Can Change the World. It is also an opportunity for those of you who are here at home to strengthen the bonds of community you already have with each other and widen the circle of spiritual family to include even more people. Please come out and support our community with your presence.

What I know to be true is that whether I am here in person or not, that I am always with you. As my favorite poem by ee cummings states, "I carry your heart in my heart. Anywhere I go, you go, my dears.

Love and blessings,
Heather
