Dr. Heather Dawn Clark

Dr. Heather Dawn Clark, Spiritual Leader

Elected in May of 1999, Dr. Heather serves as our spiritual leader. Although she views herself as a recovering shy person, Dr. Heather is a gifted, powerfully effective speaker whose sense of humor and love of story are evident in her Sunday morning messages. Dr. Heather loves to teach the principles of the Science of Mind in clear, practical ways, often drawing upon her rich knowledge of literature and sacred traditions to illustrate the concepts.

She is a compassionate woman who believes that both wisdom and love are necessary ingredients in ministry. A good listener, Dr. Heather is an insightful spiritual counselor and effective practitioner, loving to hold up the mirror of consciousness so that her clients will see their own magnificence. Dr. Heather's own life has been transformed through the application of the principles of Science of Mind through growth in self-esteem, self-awareness, and self-advocacy.

Rev. Alene Kramer

Assistant Minister; Director of Prayer Treatment Ministry

Alene Kramer

Rev. Alene Kramer has been a member of the Center for Spiritual Living Capistrano Valley since 1998 and has been a licensed minister since 2003, and was ordained in July, 2008. For the past 12 years she has been in service to the International Centers for Spiritual Living and is a member of the ICSL Spiritual Practices Committee.

Rev. Alene is the Director of our Prayer Ministry. She oversees the Prayer Practitioners who are trained in the art and science of Affirmative Prayer.

Her greatest joy, she says, is seeing people glow with the new awareness of their spiritual growth. Believing the way to spiritual growth is being in service and taking classes, Rev. Alene is also a teacher of Science of Mind classes and a facilitator of small groups.

Through first-hand experience, she believes that Affirmative Prayer is one of the most important spiritual tools we teach and by "changing your thinking, you can and will change your life."

Rev. Karyn Allen

Karyn Allen

Rev. Karyn Allen, Creative Arts Ministry; Rev. Karyn has been in the Science of Mind teachings since 1998, has been a dancer since 1974, and has been a performing musician since 2003. Her instructing background includes three years as a Teacher's Assistant in the Saddleback Valley School District, and two years as a Creative Dance Instructor for toddlers. Her ministry incorporates her knowledge and embodiment of the Science of Mind philosophy with her performing arts and teaching background to create an inspiring method of learning about ones self through creativity. She believes that everyone has a unique gift to share with the world and it can be revealed through the Science of Mind teachings and the arts. A favorite quote of hers by Martha Graham reads, "There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening, that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique."

Rev. Bruce Fredenburg

Bruce Fredenburg

Rev. Bruce is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, practicing in Laguna Hills, California since 1982. He is a Clinical Member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, a Child Specialist and Divorce Coach with Collaborative Divorce Solutions and a member of the International Association of Collaborative Professionals. Rev. Bruce is also a professional speaker who brings wit and humor into everything he does.

Rev. Geoff Layng

Healing and Wellness

Rev. Geoff Layng

A cancer survivor of more than 20 years, Rev. Geoff is dedicated to inspiring people to find their wellness. He has facilitated many support groups at the Wellness Community, area hospitals, North County Oncology Associates in Vista, and a support group at our Center. Also an international speaker, he founded the San Diego Chapter of National Speakers Assn. in 1982. He has been a student of Quantum Physics and Metaphysics for over 40 years. Revs. Geoff and Madi live in San Clemente and have eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Rev. Judee Chapman

Rev. Judee Chapman

Rev. Judee Chapman has been a student of New Thought philosophy for over sixty years and of Science of Mind for twenty-five years. Her ministry includes organizing and facilitating the mid-week service "Wednesday's Wisdom - Practicing the Presence." Rev. Judee is a dynamic speaker, leader and teacher. This flourishing service is not only a mid-week faith lift but also an opportunity for ministers and practitioners to speak about the Science of Mind.

Rev. Pattie Mercado

Assistant Minister; Youth Director

Pattie Mercado

Rev. Pattie Mercado's bright smile, warm heart and caring wisdom bring joy to the Center for Spiritual Living, Capistrano Valley's youth ministry. She attracts children of all ages and guides parents at every stage of their parenting journey as the Center's full-time youth director. Rev. Pattie's ministry provides toddlers through teens opportunities to know and deepen their connection with God and each other through play and practice. On Sunday, you will find her at the center of a bustling youth room, but her spiritual vision reaches farther than the weekend service into Center-sponsored day camps, playgroups, parenting classes, socials and much more.

Since 1986, Rev. Pattie has called the Center Spiritual Living Capistrano Valley her spiritual home and family. She and her husband immersed themselves in the Center's teaching, raised their two spiritually conscious children, and shared the path of transformation in classes and community. Pattie's service within the Center has included six years on the board of trustees (three years as president), and chairperson of the annual program of commitment. Pattie is nationally recognized from her service on the Centers for Spiritual Living youth and family curriculum and training teams, and is credited for helping to enhance the presence of family and youth spiritual education in our church community. A certified instructor recognized by the International Network for Children and Families, Rev. Pattie brings practical insight and passion to her work with children, parents and volunteers.


Rev Madi Layng

Circle of Love

Rev. Madi Layng

Rev. Madi's love of people is fulfilled in this ministry. A mother of five grown children, eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, she considers the center for Spiritual Living Capistrano Valley her family. She and her husband, Rev. Geoff Layng, have been studying metaphysics for many years. Her career included work at San Diego Children's Hospital in the Child Protection Department and volunteer as a parent aide to families at risk for abuse. She has extensive experience in real estate and retail sales.

Rev. Dave Lewis

Rev. Dave is a student of four highly qualified New Thought ministers from both United Centers for Spiritual Living and International Centers for Spiritual Living. He is a refugee from fundamentalism for some 15 years with a keen appreciation of the presence and operation of Spirit.

Community Outreach

Rev. Patricia Truman

Rev. Patricia is responsible for community outreach, obtaining guest speakers. Rev. Patricia brings the same warm, personal service to her ministry as to her long term, successful real estate career, being a practitioner or facilitating small groups. In addition to her ministerial duties and real estate, Rev. Patricia is an avid traveler who finds great joy in exploring the wonder of God's diverse expression on the planet. Also, Rev. Patricia is a published poet and writer contributing often to Creative Thought magazine and our Adventure in Faith.
