Known as the "Goat Lady of Nepal," Rev. Rosalind lives in Laguna Beach, California. Her charity, R Star Ministries, helped build a school in poverty-stricken Ojathar, Nepal.
Rev. Rosalind earned her nickname through a special project also aimed at aiding Nepal, the second poorest country in the world. Her program purchased goats and gave two of them to women in selected village - with the provision that they not eat the goats for two years. Each woman was taught how to care for their goats and how to earn money. For many women this was a way to step out of poverty.
She will deliver both talks on Sunday, August 1.
Rev. Sandy Freeman-Loomis serves as Youth Minister at the Center for Spiritual Living Concord, in Concord, California. She is the recipient of the Youth Champion 2008 award, given by the International Centers for Spiritual Living.
Rev. Sandy was a professional actress for more than 30 years, working in New York City and Los Angeles appearing prime time and daytime series. When her daughter made her transition at age 17, Rev. Sandy was let into the ministry. She began her Religious Science training in Glendale, California with Dr. Leo Fishbeck, Dr. Arleen Bump, Rev. Elizabeth Claire and others.
Rod Loomis, Rev. Sandy's partner in life, is a professional film and television actor. He has appeared in many films including Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure and Body Double.
Rev. Sandy and Rod will present their playlet, God Dialogue!, a metaphysical interpretation of the Lord's Prayer.
Inspirational singer Karen Drucker will deliver the talks at both services during the last Sunday in August. Karen will also be our guest vocalist!
As a teenager, Karen was a competitive swimmer with a burning desire to be up on a stage. Fate stepped in when singer/songwriter Carole King moved in next door. King become Karen's role model.

Rose Tingle, Animal Kinship Ministry
Portrayal of animals as lesser beings without thought or emotion dates at least as far back as the days of Aristotle. Now ethnologists studying animal behavior are drawing from a growing body of evidence to build a case to the contrary. On the forefront of the burgeoning field are scientists and authors Marc Bekoff and Jonathan Balcombe who are also instructors at the Humane Society University.
Question: Why are some scientists opposed to exploring the possibility of animal morality and emotional experience?
Balcombe: It's threatening to us because it requires us to revisit the whole paradigm (standard) of our relationship with animals. If animals are moral and have virtue and a sense of ethics, then how can we continue to treat them the way we do, to keep them in cages and slaughter them by the billions?
Question: What do you hope your students will take away from your Humane Society University course?
Bekoff: A better appreciation for animals, not what they are but who they are, and an appreciation for their cognitive, emotional, and moral lives. I also hope this creates an army of animal protection advocates.

The new license plate was introduced in June 2010. It is sponsored by the California Veterinary Medical Board, and provides a fun, easy way for pet lovers to help reduce pet overpopulation. Proceeds help fund free or low-cost spay and neuter surgeries in California, while helping raise awareness about the importance of spaying and neutering. The DMV will begin the official program as soon as 7,500 people pre-order their plates. So please order yours as soon as possible. For more information, go to www.caspayplate.com.
Kirsten Thomas, Youth Advisor
The teens attended the annual summer seminar in Idyllwild during the last week of June. This year's theme, "Strip Away and Enter Great," reflected us stripping away the old ideas of seminar and entering into something better: the integration process of the two splits into one Center for Spiritual Living. Although it is sometimes difficult to give up old ideas, the teens seem to better than the adults! We also said goodbye to Ryan Moore, who has been one of our beloved advisors for the last 11 years.
We wish Ryan all the best in his new job in San Francisco. Look for car washes during July and August, as we raise funds for nest year's activities. We thank you for your constant support!
Pattie Mercado,
Youth Director
Sunday in Youth Church in July and August will be an exploration of Service through Charity in July and the Why and What of Being in August. When you miss being in youth church on Sunday we miss you! Remember, your presence is valuable. YOU are a part of something special - thanks for making it that way!
August 16-20 is for kids in grades 4-6. Geared for an older child who still enjoys being a kid we will be taking aim at Laser Quest, surfing and swimming at the beach, hanging out and much more! The Voices of God summer camps are co-op camps which make the role of the parent important to the overall success and experience of connection, unity and friendship.
This year we are excited to sponsor our first annual middle school camp! For kids in grade 6, 7 and 8 we will be camping on Catalina Island August 23-26! This camp is an exciting mix of summer fun on the water and connecting with our Selves. Adult advisors will share the experience of discovery, connection and joy!
Be part of something special. Enroll in camp today! Details and registration information are available in the Youth Center or by contacting Pattie Mercado.
Kids Day Out is on summer break until September. Please Contact Pattie Mercado for more information and to be added to the September roster.
Rev. Judee Chapman, Assistant Minister
As Dr. Ernest Holmes states, "God is the First Cause, the Great I AM, the Unborn One, the Uncreated, the Absolute or Unconditioned, the One and Only...Spirit, or the Creative Energy which is the cause of all visible things ... Love, Wisdom, Intelligence, Power, Substance, Mind. The Truth which is real, the Principle which is dependable."
So what that says to me is that "It's All God." Whatever situation or challenge we are experiencing in this moment, is for our personal spiritual growth and awakening. It's so beneficial to have a spiritual community like the Center for Spiritual Living to sustain and support us on our path. Our mid-week service is a delightful way to practice the Presence through music, meditation, fellowship and wisdom. Please join us each Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. for an hour of power.
Blessings and love,
Rev. Judee
I am excited to announce two exciting and positive developments in our center's financial growth! First, the formation of a Financial Advisory Committee to our center has occurred. The Financial Advisory Committee has been in the background of the board of trustee's intentions for a while now. As with all great ideas, the gestation period allowed us to draw to us the right and perfect people to be a part of this idea, as well as the certainty within the board members and the advisory committee that this is indeed a God (good) idea.
At our annual meeting in March it was observed that our center has experienced the effect of minimal interest income on CDs and money market accounts, the two investment vehicles we have been relying on for the past two years. As the fiduciary stewards of our center and the volunteers tasked with the job of identifying and utilizing the best vehicles for our cash assets, we have relied upon our individual and collective experience, prayer and intention. This has served us well and we have no intention of discontinuing our reliance on these tools. What does make sense is to expand our circle of experience, which is how the financial advisory committee came into existence. The committee is made up of five individuals bringing a complimentary consciousness of business, investment and spiritual awareness. The members of the committee are: Dr. Heather Clark, Rev. Judee Chapman, Bill Hart, Doris Palardy (board of trustees treasurer) and myself Pattie Mercado (board of trustees president). The purpose of the committee is to work with an investment broker to research options based on our criteria for no-risk or low-risk investments and present recommendations to the board for action.
The second news is the addition of a new program to our passive income stream. VisionBirth is a division of ACN the World's Largest Direct Seller of Telecommunication Services. Created for non-profit organizations, VisionBirth is fast becoming the answer to many NPO's (non-profit organization) cash flow challenges. Our Home That We Own committee will be launching a VisionBirth awareness campaign during July introducing the products, the vision for our center and the intended results of our participation. A home that we own has been an intention for our center for more than ten years. Manifesting this intention is the first purpose and the goal of our centers participation in VisionBirth. Providing an avenue for our friends and members to support our center in a meaningful way is another reason. As a fund generator rather than a fund raiser, this process, once put in place, will continue to generate funds without costing our members and friends any additional money - that is exciting and in direct alignment with our commitment to only ask for money once a year during Adventure in Faith our annual program of commitment: spiritual and financial. As you hear and learn more about VisionBirth I encourage all of us to keep an open mind and open heart concentrating on the good that is always present, and always circulating.
I look forward to sharing with you the immense joy of living our intention to know God as our source, receive abundantly, and have resources and prosperity always available by doing our spiritual practices acknowledging everything with gratitude; maintaining and sustaining a receptive attitude, circulating our good and celebrating our magnificence.
Much love,
Pattie Mercado
